Food Porn 2008: Homemade Bagels

Homemade Bagels

My shoulder and upper arm ache from all of the kneading but after tasting the end result, I've come to the conclusion that it's a good kind of ache!

Knitta, Please

Mike Bryant: Rock God

His words, not mine. But I won't argue.

I love, love, love his gangsta rap, "Knitta, Please."

Visit his site (link in the title) and look for MP3 Player & Downloads.

Once you dye it black, ya nevah go back....

The Great Washcloth-along of 2007

I've never been a washcloth kind of a gal. Pesky things, really. Never got the hang of them. If you could get the hang of a piece of cloth with soapy suds on it, I suppose. And it's just one more thing to launder. H'rumph!

But the 50+ washcloth-along on Craftster has given me a whole new appreciation of the soggy li'l buggers.

Look at a couple of my lovelies:

This gem was finished by candlelight during a power outage last month. No power for four-plus hours; how would YOU finish knitting?

If only my crafty sistahs of yore could have seen me (by candlelight, natch!)....

This feather and Fan was also brought to you by the amazing Craftster, Kbauer. She and I swapped cotton yarn and I produced this. Kbauer is a washcloth powerhouse! I don't know how she does it: two adorable kids and husband and a sweetie-pie chihuahua...AND she's still has the time to crank out the cloths! She has me on my toes....

Check out her blog, I Craft, Therefore I Am (link under Crafty Links) and see some of the awesomeness coming off her hooks and stix.

Sorry, I have no witty stories to go with this one. No, I didn't finish this one during a hurricane, or delivering a baby in the backseat of a cab. Just sitting and knitting. While watching Serenity. Hey, it's something!

Did you find me?

I have begun a project based on the idea of found art: leaving a little crafty goodness wherever I go, hoping it will be discovered and enjoyed by someone.

If you find one of my handmade buttons, let me know. Perhaps it can inspire you to get creative too.

The Joy of Socks

I knit socks.

But it hasn't always been the case.

Two years ago I discovered the simplicity of a handknitted sock. A 3-week sock knitting course at my LYS showed me the ins and outs of turning a heel, grafting the toe and what a gusset is.

I was so proud of my newly acquired skills that I wanted to repeat this experiment and knit another pair without guidance.

Yarn was grabbed from my stash and I knitted my little heart out. Here was proof positive that I could knit socks! So I gave them to my husband and as expected, praise was lavished upon them.

Then a stroke of bad luck fell on the socks. Calamity. Misfortune. Hot water. Literally. The little buggers decided to take a spin in the washing machine. They came out smaller than they went in. Felted.

For two years I've held onto them, not knowing what to do with them. Until now.

Now they have a new home.

A fellow blogger, Carina of Save Our Socks, is asking for donations of gently worn handknit socks for various charities. She can evaluate how best to fix them or if needed, recycle the yarn for new socks. Visit her blog for more information: http://saveoursocks.blogspot.com/

Spread the joy of socks.

Touched by His Noodly Appendage

My closet door was graced by the presence of His Most Holy Starchiness.

I am truly blessed!

If you want the FSM to appear, follow the Gospel according to KhandiKraft (aka my tutorial):

Go the your nearest craft store and...

if you buy 2 packets of light brown pipe cleaners and 1 packet of dark brown pipe cleaners and 1 pkg of googly eyes and 2 small Styrofoam balls and...

if you take the dark brown pipe cleaners and wrap them around the Styrofoam and...

if you wind the light brown pipe cleaners around the styrofoam "meatballs" and create his noodly appendages and...

if you glue his googly eyes to his eye stalks and...

if you want to hang him up then attach some invisible thread.

Then He will appear!
